You’re so vain » Manila Bulletin Entertainment

With no project in the offing, Talented Personality (TP) had to find gigs to keep his financial status stable.

Banking on his hosting skills, TP’s team booked him for some shows, among them a provincial beauty contest.

The pageant representatives were excited to receive TP, even hiring a makeup artist specifically for him. To their surprise when TP arrived, he informed organizers he will do his own makeup.

He was not kidding either. TP brought his own makeup kit, which includes a huge lighted mirror.

It took TP hours to prepare himself. The organizers were getting worried as they were already running late.

Finally, TP came out of his room all dolled up. Problem was, the event was to be held outdoors, under the heat of the sun. Consequently, the heat made TP’s makeup run.

None too soon, he took a break to redo his makeup.

Minutes passed and no sign of TP. The crowd was getting antsy. The organizer turned to TP’s road manager, scolding him for the antics of his ward. They cited how he was being too vain and too gay.

Overhearing the comment, TP was suddenly jolted. Just like that, he stepped out of the room, acting as if nothing happened.

‘Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves; vanity, to what we would have others think of us.’ – Jane Austen

Acceptance is a must

Sometime ago, Pretty Celebrity (PC) had a certain body part reconstructed.

When she stepped back into the limelight, some people even commended her for looking prettier than ever before.

Years later, however, the work started to deteriorate. Thus, PC had to go under the knife again.

PC was not worried this time. She had been through the same procedure, after all.

It was only after netizens started commenting about the work done that she was alarmed. Many thought the recent work didn’t add to her beauty. In fact, some even said it made her look decidedly ill.

‘Freedom from obsession is not about something you do; it’s about knowing who you are. It’s about recognizing what sustains you and what exhausts you. What you love and what you think you love because you believe you can’t have it.’ – Geneen Roth
