Water and mud was splashing as the fifth leg of the Maxxis 4×4 Cup headed for Ormoc City in Leyte. This year’s series, which has so far been dominated by off-roaders from Northern Luzon and Southern Mindanao, finally saw a racer from the capital city take top spot. Noel Bartolome, Jr. of Manila Atletika won the fifth round held last June 24 and 25. Sponsored by local off-road club, Ormoc 4Wheelers, the race brought together over twenty extreme racers from all over the country. The unforgettable leg also saw the sons of three of the country’s top and still active off-roaders taking the top podium spots.
Winner, JR Bartolome, is the son of 2000 Rainforest Challenge of Malaysia representative Noel Bartolome, Sr., followed by 16-year-old, Christian “CJ” Doyon, son of Ormoc-based off-roader, Gerry Doyon. Finally, Davao off-roader, Jiggy Rodriguez, the son of 4Wheelers Davao racer, Joseph Rodriguez, took third spot.
The race was graced by none other than Ormoc City Mayor and local celebrity, Richard Gomez, and Vice Mayor, Carmelo Locsin, Jr. Present, too, was Leyte Congresswoman, Lucy Torres-Gomez.
The event was made possible with the support of the local government of Ormoc City, ably supported by the local officials of Barangay Tongonan, headed by Barangay Captain, Isagani Banez.
The 2017 MAXXIS Cup Extreme Off-road Series is supported by national sponsors Maxxis Tires, Phoenix Lubricants, 199Off-road House, Racetech 4×4 Suspensions, AEG Tools, and autoindustriya.com as the official media partner.
