Silver Vito Niño Andrada is the first place winner in the recently concluded photo contest dubbed “Wildlife: Through the Lens,” conducted by the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF) in the Philippines for Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS). For winning the top spot, Andrada earns the honor to represent the Philippines in the regional finals where he will compete with five other country winners from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

The winning photo of a banded iguana by Silver Andrada. “Most people might be terrified by iguanas by how it looks and by how it behaves when aggravated,” Andrada says. “It may lunge and attack at predators. But when I took this photo, what I saw is a beauty and not a monster. I saw nature’s magnificence and not just a reptile.”

Eduviges Huang, FPPF chair, said that the country winners, including Andrada, will go on an all-expense paid, two-day trip to Singapore to visit WRS’s all four parks this month and take photos of the wildlife.

The overall winner will be announced after the trip to Singapore and the winning photographer will receive a full camera set and will have full recognition for his accomplishment. His photos would then be used for the parks’ promotional purposes.

The top three winners in the Philippine leg of the contest are: Silver Vito Niño Andrada, first place; Chua CheeEam, second place; and FroilanRobas, third place.

WRS is a self-funded organization dedicated to the management of world-leading zoological institutions—Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari, River Safari, and Singapore Zoo. The four attractions welcome 4.6 million visitors every year.
