For many, the strength of “Finally Found Someone” lies in John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo — the word “authentic” was bandied around when discussing their onscreen chemistry.
So just how much of the doe-eyed sweetness in the movie was just acting? The two stars answered this question when they appeared on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” on Friday.
“Malapit na malapit po talaga ang mga eksena, mga linya, mga emosyon, mga confrontation scenes ko with Lloydie,” said Geronimo, who admitted to previously having a crush on her co-star.
For his answer, Cruz asked: “Saan ba namin huhugutin iyon kung hindi sa sarili din namin?”
The two were on the late-night talk show to promote “Finally Found Someone,” which raked in P20 million after just one day in theaters.
Cruz credited some of the success of the new Star Cinema offering to being his “most collaborative” project yet with Geronimo, with whom he has done three films.
“Kasi talagang nag-a-argue kami sa set, nag-a-argue kami sa pupuntahan ng kuwento, nag-a-argue kami sa dapat pupuntahan ng mga characters,” he shared.
Cruz added that he owes much to director Theodore Boborol, who allowed him and Geronimo to contribute to the creative process.
“Dahil sa sobrang open ni Ted, talagang inuunawa niya, and he really wanted the set to be as collaborative as possible — nabigyan ng chance,” Cruz said.
Boborol, who was alongside Geronimo and Cruz for the interview, also chimed in that he almost gave up on the movie because the two stars apparently “intimidated” him.
“It was very challenging directing them,” he revealed. “Pero ang pinaka-main lesson ko is at first, iyong intimidation.
“I got intimidated by them. I was so self-conscious, I was really doubting if I can do it. Thankfully, because of the producers, they’ve been constantly telling me, ‘We gave you this project, because we believe you can do it.’
“So na-realize ko na aarte pa ba ako? Ibinigay na itong blessing na ito tapos iiyak iyak ako tapos sasabihin ko na hindi ko kaya.”
