Francis Vicente leaves his post as head coach of Generika-Ayala.
Generika-Ayala parted ways with head coach Francis Vicente as the Lifesavers look on a different direction for the coming Philippine Superliga season.
The franchise’s management decided to seek other options in a meeting with Vicente, who handled the team for two seasons, on Sunday.
According to a team insider, there’s already a shortlist of names to replace Vicente including one coming from a prominent UAAP squad.
As for Vicente, who is also the national women’s volleyball team head coach, he accepted and understood the decision of the management.
He now wants to focus his attention on steering University of the East to a good campaign in the 80th UAAP wars starting February 4.
“I see this development as a blessing in disguise. At least I can now move on and focus on UE and the national team — if and when (Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas, Inc. acting president) Mr. (Peter) Cayco calls me back,” he said.
In his PSL career, Vicente steered the Michel Gumabao, Mel Gohing and Myla Pablo-led Philips Gold to consecutive third place finishes in the 2015 All-Filipino Conference and Grand Prix before the franchise transferred to the Premier Volleyball League.
He left the squad and transferred to Generika-Ayala in 2016.
The Lifesavers’ joined other PSL teams which made major movements in their clubs heading into the 2018 season.
Cocolife signed former Foton coach Moro Branislav while George Pascua left Cignal to replace Jerry Yee, who returned in the PVL to assemble a team under Total, as Sta. Lucia’s tactician.
