Motorists and the commuting public are advised to take note of areas that will be affected by the celebration of the feast days of Saints Peter and Paul, and Virgen dela Rosa on June 29 in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday.
In a traffic advisory, the MMDA said that portions of J.P. Rizal, A. Bonifacio, and A. Mabini Intersection will be closed to traffic starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday and onward in line with the celebration of Barangay Poblacion Day.
MMDA said traffic will be rerouted for vehicles going to Guadalupe and Manila as follows: for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) going to Guadalupe, commuters are advised to take Antipolo Street, turn right on Pres. Osmeña, turn right on E. Zobel, turn left on B. Valdez, turn right on Makati Ave., left on Buendia Ave., take flyover to Kalayaan Avenue going towards the Guadalupe area.
As for motorists from Guadalupe going to Manila, from J.P. Rizal Street, they may turn left on J.D. Villena Street, turn right on Gen. Luna, turn right on P. Burgos Street, turn left on J.P. Rizal Street to destination.
“Other intersections will be on a stop and go mode. Traffic enforcers will be deployed to assist motorists and the public,” the MMDA assured.
June 29 is the joint feast day of the pillars of the Catholic Church, Saints Peter and Paul, traditionally celebrated by the Catholic Church as Pope’s Day.
Monsignor Pedro Gerardo O. Santos, parish priest of the Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Poblacion, Makati City, will celebrate commemorative masses at 8 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
On Friday, June 30, Manila Archbishop Emeritus Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales will preside over a high mass at the church at 12:15 p.m.Solemn processions will be held at 9 a.m. and at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Church rites on Thursday will include prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father Pope Francis.
“The observance of Pope’s Day in celebration of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul seeks to intensify the faithful’s understanding of the Church’s teachings and to have full appreciation of the spiritual leadership of the Catholic Church’s leader and Vicar of Christ,” Church officials said.
