Because healthy mornings start at night

Eating a healthy meal every morning helps improve our overall health. It improves memory and concentration, keeps us energized, helps lower our cholesterol levels, boosts our metabolism, and satisfies our appetite throughout the day. We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but we keep on making excuses to miss it. It’s easy to neglect breakfast when we’re late for school or when we’re too busy for work. Radio jock and host, Joyce Pring, also struggles in starting her day right because of her busy lifestyle. “My problem was always starting out my day really, really early and then ending it really late at night. Ang aga niyo magu-umpisa ng araw niyo, matatapos kayo ng 12 midnight (You start your day really early and end it at 12 midnight), maybe, you get to bed at 1 a.m., then you have to do it all over again, so you always miss breakfast,” said Joyce when she hosted the Quaker Overnight Breakfast Club event. Along with Joyce, Will Dasovich, Patty Grandidge, and Lauren Young also shared how difficult it was preparing breakfast every day. Their advice for people who’s always on the go, prepare your breakfast at night. And what better way to do that than with oatmeal. Oatmeal is a great source of important vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. Quaker Oats prides itself in providing wholesome goodness with their wholegrain cuts.

Overnight Breakfast

Overnight oats is a breakfast meal you can prepare the night before. So you don’t have to rush the next morning, all you have to do is pick up the overnight oats, that you already prepared the night before from your fridge, and then bring it to work. All you need is a mason jar, milk, and any fruit or toppings that you like. You can customize it anyway you like depending on your taste.

T.V. host and businesswoman Patty Grandidge loves staying fit and healthy and she’s very careful in what she eats. “I love breakfast. It’s like my favorite meal of the day. During the weekdays, I prefer eating at home. It’s much healthier, it’s cheaper, and you know exactly what’s going into your food,” said Patty. Even though Patty is a busy woman, she still makes sure to eat before breakfast before leaving the house. “There arelots of activities, there’s work, there are to-do lists, but I do care about breakfast enough to make it the night before. The oats do the work for you overnight. You can pick it up, you can put soy milk, nut milk, cow’s milk, and if you’re a picky eater, you’re going to find something you love, like there’s fruits, there’s nuts, there’s honey, there’s spreads. You can have a different breakfast every day of the week just with overnight oats. I can have overnight oats for days, it’s really what we do at home. It saves time, you know exactly what’s going into your food, which I love, and it’s healthy for you,” said Patty.

Model and vlogger Will Dasovich is always on the go. One day he’ll be in Bohol and on another, he’s in Cebu. So it’s important for him to have his breakfast to start his day right. “I also say it in my blogs, you know. Ang pinaka-importanteng meal of the day is breakfast because you got to get your metabolism moving. Now, I’m not hungry in the morning, for whatever reason, I don’t have an appetite. So I really just like to eat anything that’s easy, which are oats. It would be perfect, and it makes it easier to eat as well when it tastes good,” said Will.

As an actress, Lauren Young would always have a busy schedule. She would wake up early to be on set for a shoot. On afternoons, she would attend mall shows and event guestingsand in the evening, she would be back on set. “It’s really hard for me to stick with eating breakfast, plus, I’m trying this new thing where I’m really trying to adapt to a healthier lifestyle, and sometimes, because of my schedule, I’m too tired to really prepare. And I just want to like go home, grab something from the fridge, eat it, and then pass out. Probably not so healthy, but it’s better than eating a full meal and then going to sleep. So the thing with overnight oats is that it’s just so easy, like I can meal prep, and then put it in the fridge, and then grab it if I have to go to shooting or if I get home from the shooting,” said Lauren.

Here are six Overnight Oats recipes you can try at home:

S’Mores Overnight Oats

In a jar, add ½ cup uncooked Quaker oats, ½ cup low fat milk, one piece graham cracker, one tbsp marshmallows, and one tbsp mini chocolate chips. Refrigerate overnight and enjoy in the morning.

Mango Overnight Oats

In a jar, add ½ cup uncooked Quaker oats, 1/3 low fat yogurt, ¼ cup low fat milk, one tsp chia seeds, one tsp honey, ½ cup magoes (diced), and 1/8 tsp almond extract. Refrigerate overnight and enjoy in the morning.

Apple Cinnamon Crunch Overnight Oats

In a jar, add ½ cup uncooked Quaker oats, ½ cup milk or apple cider, one tbsp granola, 1/8 tsp cinnamon, one tsp honey, and  ½ cup apples (diced). Refrigerate overnight and enjoy in the morning.

Berry Overnight Oats

In a jar, add ½ cup uncooked Quaker oats, ½ cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt, ½ cup non-fat milk, one cup fresh mixed berries and fruits (grapes, strawberries, etc.), and one tsp chia seeds. Refrigerate overnight and enjoy in the morning.

Banana Nut Overnight Oats

In a jar, add ½ cup uncooked Quaker oats, ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract, one tbsp Greek yogurt, ½ cup low fat milk, two tsp honey, 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg, ½ tsp ground cinnamon, two tbsp walnuts (chopped), and one ½ pcs ripe bananas (sliced, divided). Refrigerate overnight and enjoy in the morning.

Carrot Cake Overnight Oats

In a jar, add ½ cup uncooked Quaker oats, ½ cup non-fat milk, two tbsp pecans (chopped), ¼ tsp ground cinnamon, 2 tsp maple syrup, and ¼ cup carrots (shredded). Refrigerate overnight and enjoy in the morning.
