For the first time in their careers, amateur stalwarts Jeron Teng, Kiefer Ravena and Kobe Paras will join forces to form a “Dream Team” that will represent the country in the FIBA 3X3 World Cup next month in Nantes, France.
The sons of former PBA greats Benjie Paras, Alvin Teng and Bong Ravena were selected by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipipinas (SBP) to represent the country in the tournament where 19 other national teams are seeing action.
“We have a very good team not on height but in smarts, speed, athleticism and passing,” said Ravena during a press briefing last Wednesday at the Discovery Suites in Pasig City.
“I think we can do something special. It will not be easy but who knows? Bilog ang bola,” added the former two-time MVP from Ateneo who recently played for Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).
Aside from the three, NLEX veteran center JR Quiñahan has also been selected as replacement for Raymar Jose in the four-man national team to be handled by coach Eric Altamirano.
Ronald Mascariñas, the president of Bounty Fresh Ventures Incorporated – the company the produces Chooks to Go – expressed confidence with the composition of the national team.
“He (Quiñahan) brings in a lot of experience and well, leadership to the younger players. We have a good team – players who are Most Valuable Players in the own right. When you have winners on the squad good things happen. It’s a ‘dream team’ for this 3X3,” said Mascariñas.
