The Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings scored their first win in the 2017 PBA Governor’s semifinals against TnT KaTropa, allowing them to live for another day. With their backs against the wall, PBA legend and former senator Robert “Big J” Jaworski paid the team a visit to once again trigger the never-say-die spirit.
Former league MVP Jayjay Helterbrand witnessed throughout the years how Ginebra rises whenever Jaworski emerges, not getting tired of the advices given to him.
“Never,” answered Helterbrand if visits from Jaworski are getting too old for him.
“His inspiration just being here, coming in there and talking to the other guys, his taking time from his day just to come here and support us – its big for us and it is big for the fans – we appreciate that.”
Ginebra reinforcement Justin Brownlee concurs with Helterbrand, acknowledging how the “Big J’s” presence boosts the team’s morale whenever he sits in the sidelines.
“Whenever a legend like that comes in, you know what it means to Ginebra – it always gives you an extra uplift at this period,” said Brownlee. “Every time he is in the arena, we want to play great for him. You can feel his energy as soon as he comes in and into to the locker room just seeing him. You got to have a lot of respect for him.”
Jaworski did his familiar halftime dugout visit and the Kings came out smoking in the second half to blow away ab import-less TnT and force a Game 4 this Saturday.
“Kung paano depensahan si Joshua Smith,” Japeth Aguilar told the media on what Jaworski said in the locker room.
“Encouragement lang, we have to help each other kasi kailangan nga mag-double and contain him,” Aguilar added.
The Gin Kings hope to replicate their success tomorrow against TnT at the Cuneta Astrodome. (EH)
