How Kris Bernal manages to ignore bashers while widening her horizons

Being a celebrity isn’t easy as it comes with having both fans and haters.

Kris Bernal

Kris Bernal has had more than her usual share of critics over her decision to bare some skin publicly.

“Well, ngayon I’m starting to block them, and at the same time I’m turning off the kasi sometimes it’s too harsh eh,” she said.

The 28-year-old actress related how painful it is for her that some people just won’t stop harping on her thinness.

What if ganito lang ’yung built ninyo na no matter how much you eat talagang hindi ka lumalaki, ganu’n ka lang talaga.

Flaunting it

The matter became worse with Kris recently posing for a men’s magazine. Some people have insinuated she couldn’t have achieved the figure the natural way.

“Pinaghirapan ko ’yun eh. As in I was only given a week to prepare and siyempre first time ko mag-sexy photo shoot so hindi ko alam kung magda-diet ba ako…

She revealed the situation made her a little emotional.

Kris confessed it got her thinking twice about widening her horizons.

In the end, she decided to scoff at the criticisms if it means celebrating her decision.

“Parang I wanted to do something not really daring but something that would match my age as a 28-year-old woman.”

To those who mock her for not placing in the magazine’s top 10 beauties (at least as of this writing), Kris said ranking was far from her mind when she posed.

She already made clear the magazine venture is not about her readying to take on more daring roles.

“Siguro little cleavage okay lang pero ’yung full (hubad), hindi kaya,” she maintained. “I wanna keep a bit of my sweet image pero siyempre naglalabas din ako ng iba kong side.”

Times two

Kris will further prove her versatility as actress taking on a dual role on “Impostora.”

The Kapuso series is about Nimfa, a street vendor who willingly undergoes facial reconstruction to become Rosette, a wealthy and beautiful but unhappily married wife seeking to escape her husband.

Kris shared wearing prosthetic is the most challenging part in performing the role.

“Kasi nilalagay siya then tinatatanggal after two hours,” she said.

“Like in a day, parang ilalagay, tatanggalin, ilalagay, tatanggalin, tapos blank makeup ta’s naka makeup, sobrang hirap.”

She took on the role to please fans, inasmuch as “gusto ko lang makita nila na pwede rin si Kris sa roles na ganito. Na pwedeng maging kabit, or kontrabida.

So how was it playing bad guy, we asked.

“Mas napaglalaruan ko. Sanay na kasi ako sa roles na lagi ako mabait, lagi ako inaapi, so parang itong salbahe parang lahat bago sa akin, ’yung pagbato ng linya, pagiging salbahe sa ibang ka-eksena ko,” she said.

In an effort to make her mark, Kris didn’t watch the original version of the series.

“May tendency kasi na baka gayahin ko ’yung before,” she explained. “I want my own acting and my own attack, parang ganu’n.
The series will premiere soon on the GMA Afternoon Prime block. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
