We really wanted to set-up everything early so we dont cram. That is why we wanted all our NSAs to submit to us their entry by names early so we can allocate their accommodations, prepare the billeting, their foods and other matters so we will have a smooth campaign — Team Philippines SEA Games chef de mission Cynthia Carrion
Sixteen national sports associations (NSAs) have yet to submit their respective lineup of athletes that will compete in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia two months from now.
Team Philippines SEA Games chef de mission Cynthia Carrion said that as of Thursday morning only 21 NSAs out of the 37 sports that the country will participate in the biennial meet have given the names of their entries. The SEA Games will take place August 19 to 30.
The NSAs were given until June 15 to submit their respective lineups to give ample time for the Team Philippines Secretariat to input the names of the athletes, arrange their flights, accommodations, food and other requirements. The Secretariat wants to complete the entry of names as soon as possible so that they can meet the deadline of delegation submission to Malaysia SEA Games Organizing Committee (MASOC) on June 30.
Those who have yet to submit their lineups are volleyball, compulsory sports athletics and swimming, badminton, basketball, fencing, football, karate, rugby football, sailing, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, netball and waterskiing.
“We really wanted to set-up everything early so we don’t cram,” said Carrion. “That is why we wanted all our NSAs to submit to us their entry by names early so we can allocate their accommodations, prepare the billeting, their foods and other matters so we will have a smooth campaign.”
Team Philippines is composed of a total of 719 athletes, coaches and support personnel. With a large contingent, Carrion wanted to accomplish the entry by names and other requirements as soon as possible.
“We need to prepare everything now so that we will not burn the lines and cram at the last minute. We still need to confirm our participation by assuring them of the US$400,000 as advance for the billeting of our athletes,” she said.
Only archery, billiards-snooker, boxing, cycling, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, indoor hockey, ice hockey, ice skating, judo, sepak takraw, shooting, tennis, tenpin bowling, triathlon, wushu, lawn bowls, muaythai, pencak silat and petanque have submitted their lineups as of posting.
