WITH the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight championship on the line, Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao has been warned by Jeff Horn’s camp that he may be in for a rude awakening.
“Manny has never fought anyone like Jeff,” Glenn Rushton, Horn’s trainer, said in a report by Grantlee Kieza of The Courier-Mail.
The upcoming showdown between the Filipino champion and the Australian boxer will be held on July 2 at the 52,500-capacity Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
Rushton said that the 29-year-old Australian is different from Pacquiao’s previous opponents. He claimed that Pacquiao struggles against opponents who are unpredictable and has strategic moves as opposed to those who come forward and go toe-to-toe.
“Most guys Manny has fought come into the ring and they are predictable. Even Tim Bradley – who is a very good boxer—they all start with the left jab, right hand, left hook. But Jeff throws punches from everywhere. He can throw right-hand leads as fast as jabs and he can turn southpaw quickly to throw opponents off their game. His pressure technique upsets his opponents’ rhythm,” Rushton explained.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao’s camp seems unbothered as it began its closed-door training in General Santos City three weeks before the big fight.
In a report by GMA News Online, Pacman Wildcard Gym was seen with tightened security only allowing members of Team Pacquiao, his family, and select media to enter the facility.
During his latest training session, Pacquiao underwent sparring and mitts while he jogged and did core exercises at Acharon Sports Complex with Team Pacquiao. (AJPress)
