NEW GUYS. Two days after Filipino-Canadian RJ Ramirez, it was Filipino-American Jasper Parker who had for himself a breakout game for FEU.

Another game in the 2017 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament, another impressive showing by another Far Eastern University player.

Incoming first-year player Jasper Parker was in control in both ends to and steered the Tamaraws to a 99-84 triumph over Mapua University on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Pointman Parker collected 14 points, six assists, and five rebounds and was helped along by RJ Ramirez and Arvin Tolentino who scored 18 and 17 markers, respectively.

Filipino-American Parker followed up Filipino-Canadian Ramirez’ breakout game last Friday. Tolentino and Hubert Cani have also had their moments in the preseason.

Moving the ball crisply to the tune of a 53 percent field goal percentage to go along with 25 assists, FEU bullrushed its way to a perfect 4-0 standing.

Still, coach Olsen Racela wants much more from his defense which also allowed their opponents to convert 46 percent of their shots. “I’m happy with our offense, pero priority namin yun defense. We gave up a lot of points so still, our focus should be defense,” he said.

Indeed, it was the Tamaraws’ strong start with a 26-point first quarter that led the way to a win.

Even with an undefeated record, however, Racela said his boys still have a lot to prove. “Mas malakas yung kabilang grupo e. Yung champion ng UAAP and NCAA, nandun e so we’re really looking forward to play those teams,” he said.

Racela and his wards are tops in Group B while UAAP champion De La Salle University and NCAA titlist San Beda College belong in Group A.

For the Cardinals, Andoy Estrella showed the way with 17 points. They remain locked out of the win column after six games.
