SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — At least 700 residents had participated the first “Takbo para sa ASEAN 2017” launched by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 1 on Saturday at the Baywalk Event Center, Poro Point here.
The event does not only aim to promote body wellness and fitness but also to drumbeat the advocacy on the ongoing 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings in the country.
This year the country is the chairman of ASEAN, which coincides with the observance of its 50th anniversary.
Jennilyne C. Role, the regional director of PIA Region 1, said the PIA has launched the “Takbo para sa ASEAN 2017” to advocate not only the importance of body fitness but also the programs, benefits and advantages of ASEAN in the Ilocos region.
The fun run aligned its objectives to the programs of the ASEAN Sociocultural Community, one of the three ASEAN pillars that seek to forge a common identity and build a caring and sharing society which is inclusive and where the well-being, livelihood and welfare of the peoples are enhanced.
This ASEAN pillar focuses the nurturing of the human, cultural and natural resources for sustained development in a harmonious and people-oriented ASEAN.
Runners Valerie Casallo and Bernard Caluza were the champions for the male and female categories, respectively of the 3-kilometer run; and Fernando B. Reyes and Glennie B. Aljas, were the champions for the male and female categories, respectively, of the 5-kilometer run.
Special awards were given to the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) La Union chapter for having the biggest number of delegations.
