President Duterte and his rabid attack dogs in government should stop using his anti-drug campaign as a platform for vengeance against opposition stalwarts, detained Senator Leila de Lima said today.
“Duterte is not interested in catching real drug lords. He is merely using his notorious drug war as a platform for vengeance against the political opposition, including LP stalwarts Sen. Franklin Drilon and former Interior secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, who has already stayed out of the public view since the 2016 elections,” de Lima said in her latest dispatch from Camp Crame.
De Lima is reacting to the latest threat of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III who earlier vowed to treat the affidavit submitted by a drug personality, tagging two Liberal Party stalwarts as a protector of Melvin Odicta Sr., as a complaint.
Odicta and his wife, who were both suspected drug dealers, were shot dead in August last year at a port in Aklan.
The two LP stalwarts identified by Aguirre were Drilon and Roxas, basing his statements on the affidavit submitted by Ricky Serenio, a confessed bagman of the Berya drug cartel.
“Mr. Duterte and his rabid attack dog SOJ Aguirre should stop going after their imagined and fictitious drug lords, whether Sen. Drilon, Sec. Roxas, (Iloilo City) Mayor Jed Mabilog, or myself,” she said.
“He should go after the real drug lords. In order to do this, Mr. Duterte does not even have to go that far. Apparently, the drug smugglers are living right inside his own household,” the senator added.
De Lima is currently detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) custodial center over drug charges initiated by the Duterte government.
According to Serenio, Odicta was also protected by Mabilog, who was forced to go on leave after President Duterte warned him he would be next after the bloody raid conducted against former Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr.
Roxas and Drilon has since denied the allegations linking them to the drug trade.
“Pangulong Duterte, bakit ka mag-aaksaya ng panahon sa pagimbestiga sa walang kwentang sabi-sabi ng isang walang kwentang saksi, kung ang mga tunay na salarin sa pag-smuggle ng limpak-limpak na shabu ay nasa ilalim mismo ng iyong ilong? (President Duterte, why do you have to waste your time investigating a worthless information given by a worthless witness if the real culprit of smuggling tons of shabu are right under your nose?)” de Lima pointed out.
“Bakit mo pa paiimbestiga si Drilon at si Roxas kay Aguirre kung ang sarili mong anak na si Paolo na nadawit na sa pag-smuggle ng tone-toneladang shabu, kasabwat ang iyong manugang, ay patuloy na namamayagpag sa kabila ng kawalan ng seryosong imbestigasyon sa kanilang pagkadawit? (Why ask Aguirre to investigate Drilon and Roxas when your own son Paolo is directly implicated in the smuggling of billions worth of shabu, together with your son-in-law, and are still enjoying their time due to the lack of a serious probe on their alleged involvement?” de Lima said.
The Senate earlier investigated Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte and Mans Carpio, husband of Davao city mayor Sara Duterte who were among the people tagged by broker Mark Taguba in the P6.4-billion shabu shipment from China that breezed through the Bureau of Customs (BOC) green lane.
“Habambuhay bang pagtatakpan ng iyong mga kaalyado at buong gobyerno ang iyong anak at manugang? (Will his allies and the whole government forever protect his son and son in law)?”
“Bakit si Drilon at Roxas ang iyong pagbabalingan ng atensiyon habang ang pangunahing nagkokonekta kay Paolo Duterte at Mans Carpio sa “Davao Group”, si Davao Councilor ‘Small’ Abellera, ay biglang nawala, at di man lang malaman kung siya ay dinampot o pinalutang na sa karagatan ng Samal? Nasan rin ba si ‘Tita Nani’? (Why does he have to train his guns on Drilon and Roxas when the primary link of Paolo Duterte and Mans Carpio to the Davao group is Davao councilor Small Abellera, who suddenly went missing, and we don’t even know if he has been kidnapped or is now floating in the waters of Samal island? Also, where is Tita Nani?)” she pointed out.
