Rain or Shine’s Commissioner’s Cup title reign is in serious jeopardy.

Star absolutely destroyed the defending champion Elasto Painters Monday in Game 1 of their best-of-3 quarterfinals series, taking a big 118-82 win at the Big Dome.

The Hotshots remained as the hottest team in the PBA, winning a sixth straight game to move to within one victory away of another semifinal appearance.

Star picked things up in the second quarter as the Hotshots unloaded a 15-0 blast to turn a one-point game into a blowout.

Things got worse for Rain or Shine in the second half as Star continued to dominate, even leading by as many as 41 points late in the game, 114-73.

“I think we have a proper mindset. We know na defending champion kasi itong Rain or Shine so hindi namin pwede bale-walain ito,” head coach Chito Victolero said.

“Maganda ang panalo namin ngayon, but it’s not yet over,” he added.

Despite going scoreless in the fourth quarter, import Ricardo Ratliffe still pumped 29 points for Star while five locals finished in double figures.

Allein Maliksi and Aldrech Ramos both came off the bench to score 16 and 15 points respectively while Ian Sangalang added 12.

Duke Crews led the champs with 19 points and Beau Belga scored 18, 12 in the opening period.

Other than that, the entire Rain or Shine offense fell flat as the Elasto Painters collectively shot 33 percent from the field against the vaunted Star defense.

Game 2 is set for Wednesday also at the Big Dome.
