Now is the time to hop on the Christian Standhardinger bandwagon.

The Fil-German force powered Gilas Pilipinas to a big bounce back win in the 39th William Jones Cup, leading the national team to an impressive 88-72 victory over Taipei Blue Sunday at the Taipei Peace International Basketball Hall.

Despite playing a reserve role, Standhardinger was effective all the way for Gilas once he checked in, going for a 17-point, 15-rebound double-double on top of three assists.

He did the bulk of his work in the second half as the Philippines slowly pulled away from the hosts to register its first win of the tournament after a bummer against Canada Saturday.

Matthew Wright was also impressive Sunday for Gilas after a rough shooting night against the Canada. The Fil-Canadian gunner exploded for 14 points built on three treys in the first half, helping break the Taipei zone defense. He finished with a total of 17 points.

Following a sloppy effort for its first game, Gilas came out steady focused against Taipei Blue as Kiefer Ravena scored or assisted in the game’s first seven points.

The Phenom was the backbone of the Philippines offense all game long and finished with an all-around effort of 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

His double dagger of a buzzer-beating three and a tough layup gave Gilas a rather safe 82-69 lead in the final three minutes.

Now at 1-1 in the nine-day joust, Gilas will look to go for two straight wins as the national team takes on Taipei B on Monday.
