Perlas survived a five-set match against Philippine Air Force to boost its bid for a semifinals spot.
Perlas kept its semifinals hopes alive with a hard-earned, 24-26, 25-15, 26-28, 25-20, 15-8 win over Philippine Air Force Tuesday night in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Spikers rebounded from a round robin quarterfinals opening day setback to even their record at 1-1 tied with Creamline.
Behind Brazilian import Rupia Inck and team captain Dzi Gervacio, Perlas erased an early 0-2 deficit in the fifth frame with a telling rally to build an 11-6 cushion that took the fight out of the Jet Spikers.
“We’re still alive thank God. We just needed to adjust during the first and third set. Now we see what our problems are. Kapag dikit nahihirapan kami kapag lamang, parang kailangan naming lumamang ng malayo para maka-close ng set,” said Gervacio.
Inck blasted 30 points including 25 off attacks while Kathy Bersola and Gervacio finished with 15 and 12 markers, respectively, for the Spikers.
Perlas need to win its last match on Thursday against Pocari Sweat (2-0) and hope to get a superior tiebreak in case of a three-way tie at 2-1 if Creamline wins over Philippine Air Force (0-2).
The Jet Spikers dropped their second straight match and are on the verge of packing for an early vacation.
Jocemer Tapic had 16 points, Joy Cases had 10 while Thai import Patcharee Saengmuang was limited to only eight markers.
