Deputy Speaker and Cebu Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia is seeking the establishment of a Cebu Technological University campus in the municipality of Balamban in Cebu.
She asked the Board of Regents of the CTU to establish a Balamban campus following the numerous requests of local government officials, sectoral leaders and citizens from Balamban and its neighboring municipalities to provide their growing youth population with quality tertiary education.
“Establishing a CTU campus in Balamban will save families considerable amount of money that they will be constrained to spend in sending their children to private and public colleges and universities in Cebu City in terms of school and tuition fees as well as transportation and accommodation expenses,” Garcia said.
The municipality of Balamban, an industry center that hosts a thriving shipbuilding industry, is a first class municipality with more than 90,000 residents residing in its 26 barangays.
Garcia said establishing a CTU campus in Balamban will certainly provide access to quality tertiary education to the youth of the municipality and its neighboring communities that will prepare them to become productive members of society in the future.
She said establishing a CTU campus in Balamban will surely encourage poor students to pursue tertiary education which they cannot afford in private colleges and universities.
“Establishing a CTU campus in Balamban will definitely address the growing needs for human resources of its industries which will surely grow in the years to come as the municipality affirms its status as an industrialized municipality,” she said. (Charissa M. Luci-Atienza) ###
