Social Media Decries Russia’s Arrest of Teenage Girls

Teenage girls and even their parents joined the different protests in Russia earlier this week, decrying the different corrupt practices of the current Russian government.

How did the police respond? By putting these minors in cuffs and behind bars. Which just really proved the point even further. It also comes shortly after reports on Vladimir Putin saying he doesn’t have a bad day because he’s “not a woman.” Putin seems to make sure no one has a good day unless it’s himself.
Social media took notice and even noted some girls were as young as 14 years old.

Seeing these young girls taken forcibly and arrested reflects exactly what they are protesting about. They want a better future and it looks like they don’t see Putin in that future. Who does, right?

But it looks like the Russian government isn’t even interested in trying to save face. Along with detaining teenagers, Putin’s foremost opponent was also arrested. Alexei Nalvany, who has expressed a desire to run against Putin in the next election, was on his way to the protests when he was arrested.

Alexei then even noted in a tweet later that he will miss a Depeche Mode concert because of the government. “They stole everything in the country, and moreover, I will miss a Depeche Mode show in Moscow because of them,” he tweeted in Russian.

The protests happened on Russia Day, when they commemorate Russia’s declaration of sovereignty. Signs included “Putin Is a Theif,” “Russia Without Putin,” and “We Love Russia.
