JK Labajo dived into acting not knowing anything about it.
“When I did my first acting on ‘Hawak Kamay,’ I had no idea what to do, I didn’t know anything,” he said. “Kumbaga, the management just put me out there.
He went on to portray himself in a “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode.
The young man, who is behind the hit song “Para Sa’Yo,” has since taken on other roles, including that of Lucas, the rebellious son of Anton (Ian Veneracion) and Grace (Iza Calzado) on “A Love To Last” but he shared, “Hindi pa rin po ako nag-acting workshop.”
He considers it his biggest challenge as actor so far as “hindi po siya malapit sa kung ano ’yung personality ko.”
“Kasi in real life I’m a happy kid, a happy-go-lucky kid. I’m a positive person in real life. Lucas kasi is a problematic kid.
The young actor shared he is pressured doing his best on “A Love To Last” “kasi ang mga kasabayan ko ay ibang level na mga actor.”
“I still consider myself as a beginner so talagang na-pressure ako to do my best.
I feel blessed (to be in their company),” he said.
Asked if he wants to be known as actor or singer or both, he said, “I want to be known as an actor who can sing.”
Of late, Lucas is being bashed online because his character sided with mom Grace.
JK said, “Yes, I am aware of that. Ang daming galit kay Lucas. ‘Lucas to Last’ na nga ang tawag nila sa show.
He sees nothing wrong with it. Management assures it merely means he is doing his job right.
“Sabi nila, ‘That’s good. That’s actually good news kasi that means effective ang acting mo.
He never experienced bashing on a personal level but should it happen, he would just tell the basher: “Ipagpatuloy mo lang ang gusto mo.”
On being part of a love team
JK is one of the few young stars who is bereft of a love team.
Asked about the possibility of being paired with an actress his age, he said, “I would be okay having a love team pero I don’t want to be dependent on it. Honestly, wala akong problema kung ano ang plano ng management kasi this is my job, to act, to portray roles. Love team, wala namang problema du’n.”
Asked about three girls whom he wants to be paired with, JK gamely obliged.
“I would take Andrea Brillantes kasi technically kami po ’yung first talaga na nagkasama at maganda siya. I’m also interested in Kira Marie Balinger. Actually, may BaYlona kasi pero I’m interested in working with Ylona Garcia, too.”
