Singapore has offered an Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to the Philippine government to boost its offensives against terrorists, especially the ISIS-inspired Maute Group.
This was learned from a high-level Defense Department official, who requested not to be identified, as Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana met with Singapore Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen at a hotel in Pasay City on Tuesday, as part of the latter’s two-day official visit to Manila.
“First, nagpasalamat iyung Singaporean defense minister kay SND for the leadership and decisive action in Marawi kasi they believe iyung terrorism affects the whole region ,” the source said.
“Nag offer (din) sila ng tulong sa ISR operations ng Pilipinas,” he added.
However, the source could not provide more information as there are still no additional details on the offer by Singapore.
The source also said that Singapore also offered to send relief supplies to Marawi evacuees which include water purifier.
The supplies will be sent via a C-130 cargo plane.
“They will (also) help our troops in training against terrorism. They have a mock up village, on urban warfare,” the source said.
“On the part of the SND, he thanked the Singaporean government for its support to the Philippines in the fight against terrorism,” he said.
