The Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard have ordered the suspension of the search for the body of Bien Unido, Bohol Mayor Gisela Boniel off the waters of Caubian Island in Lapu-Lapu City Saturday morning.
Authorities ordered the suspension of the diving operations after divers said they have already reached a depth of more than 200 meters and still found no sign of the supposed body of the lady mayor, who was shot dead and then dumped into the sea.
The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) also ordered the suspension of the retrieval operation after the Philippine Navy assessed that the depth of the water reached 708 feet in the area where the mayor was allegedly dumped.
LCPO Director Rommer Cabagnot said the Navy has informed him that the depth is unfit for human divers because the temperature is too low and can only be reached by unmanned robots.
Saturday was the third day of the search / diving operations.
The police brought along Reolito Boniel, to the search area on Saturday. He is a relative of the lady mayor’s husband and prime suspect Nino Rey Boniel, a Bohol provincial board member.
Reolito claimed that it was Nino who ordered him to pick a location where they can dump the body of Gisela.
Senior Superintendent Jonathan Cabal, chief of intelligence of the Police Regional Office (PRO) – 7 said charges of kidnapping and illegal detention were filed at the prosecutor’s office in Tagbilaran City Friday.
It was in Bien Unido, where Gisela, her friend, and her friend’s son were kidnapped.
However, since she was killed within the jurisdiction of Lapu-Lapu City shortly before her body was dumped into sea, a separate case of parricide will be filed against Niño Rey in Lapu-Lapu City next week.
