GENRAL NAKAR, Quezon Province – About 720 riders will vie for the top spot in the Sandugo 1st Brusko Pacific Coast Epic MTB Race which kicks off Sunday.
Participants will have to pedal across “fireroads” and river crossings set in the scenic Pacific coastline of the northernmost municipality of Quezon Province in either the 100-km or 50-km category.
“This will be more on fireroads, meaning, more on land with big rocks and we also have several river crossings so expect to get wet,” Aimee Fernando, marketing unit head of Sandugo, said.
The event is organized by Sandugo in partnership with the Manila Bulletin, Isuzu, 7-Eleven and the municipal government of General Nakar, Quezon Province.
Fernando disclosed that the Brusko race was inspired by Sandugo’s first model mountain bike that they created in their cycling line.
“This is our first race sa mountain bike to promote our cycling line especially the Brusko bike. Since we have just started producing them, this event serves as our debut activity so we are really excited,” she said.
General Nakar Mayor Eliseo Ruzol said that the race will be the start of a series of activities they planned to promote eco-tourism and fitness in the municipality.
“Dahil sa race na ito, makikilala ang aming lugar dahil kung hindi ako nagkakamali ang participants natin ditto ay mula sa Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao, at mayroon ding mga banyaga (Because of this race, General Nakar will be more popular since if I’m not mistaken, our participants here include those coming from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, with some foreigners),” Ruzol said in a separate interview.
Ruzol encouraged other organizations to team up with them as he plans to create more programs centered on outdoor sports.
