Despite taking a heartbreaking 108-110 defeat at the hands of La Salle Greenhills, San Beda star Evan Nelle was all praise on his counterpart Joel Cagulangan.

In an instant triple-overtime classic, two young floor generals dueled at the Mall of Asia Arena in the stepladder semifinals of the NCAA Season 93 Juniors Basketball Tournament.

Despite taking a heartbreaking 108-110 defeat at the hands of La Salle Greenhills, San Beda star Evan Nelle was all praise on his counterpart Joel Cagulangan.

Nelle and Cagulangan went at it Tuesday for the right to move on to the NCAA Finals, in the end, it was the Junior Blazers that had the last laugh but it didn’t stop the graduating Red Cub to marvel at his victorious rival.

“Ang galing, grabe,” Nelle said of Cagulangan.

“Ang hirap i-stop. Last game ganun din ginawa samin, natulala nga kami eh. Game plan namin siya lang din pero ang galing eh. Contested naman lahat ng shots niya pero shumo-shoot pa din,” he added.

Cagulangan fired 29 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists in almost 52 minutes for La Salle Greenhills.

Nelle was in form as well, dropping 26 points on top of 11 rebounds and eight assists. It wasn’t enough.

“Sobrang sakit kasi we gave our all talaga eh, from players to coaches. Sobrang down lang talaga kami ngayon, kahit pinakita namin na talagang gusto namin, wala eh talo,” Nelle said.

“Props to my teammates, alam na alam namin na hindi kami bibigay pero wala eh. Sobrang lungkot ko lang, hindi ko alam sasabihin ko,” he added.
