Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo on Tuesday expressed her willingness to join any mass actions against the establishment of a revolutionary government.
Robredo told reporters in San Jose, Nueve Ecija that she is inclined to take part in demonstrations to resist such plan to declare a revolutionary government.
“Once we received an invitation, we will attend,” said the country’s second highest official in an interview, a transcript of which was sent to Manila-based reporters.
“We all know that from the start, I have expressed my opposition to establishing a revolutionary government,” Robredo said in Filipino.
The Vice President decried as “baseless” to form a revolutionary government, which she claimed would only instill “confusion” among Filipinos.
Robredo, who chairs the Liberal Party, is elated over the recent pronouncement of President Duterte that he will not declare a revolutionary government or impose martial law.
While she welcomed the President’s latest declaration, the lady official said it was important that Duterte himself declared there is no basis to establish a revolutionary government.
“We are happy that our President spoke. There are many fears about rumors that a revolutionary government could be declared,” she said.
The Vice President indicated that any threats of establishing a revolutionary government would only sow fear among the public.
Under a revolutionary government, the President said he would have a direct hand in ridding the bureaucracy of processes that tend to slow down the delivery of services to the public.
Duterte warned he would declared a revolutionary government if the alleged attempts of his critics to destabilize the government escalated.
