The Boston Celtics picked up the number one overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. However, it might be the Philadelphia 76ers that will get to use it.
The two teams are reportedly discussing a trade that would see the Celtics move down to the 76ers’ #3 spot, in exchange for a future first rounder, with Philadelphia leaping up to #1.
The deal was first reported by ESPN.com’s Marc Stein and Zach Lowe. The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski later confirmed the report.
League sources tell @ZachLowe_NBA and me that the Sixers and Celtics are in serious talks on a trade involving the No. 1 overall pick.

Discussions have centered on Sixers sending 2017 No. 3, 2018 Lakers pick, and possibly 2021 1st — including complicated protections. https://t.co/LwswzXyCzf

Based on the initial reporting, the 76ers would acquire the number one overall pick in this year’s draft. The Celtics in return would get the third overall pick, the 2018 first round pick of the LA Lakers, and potentially a 2021 first round pick with “complicated protections.”
The possibility of the deal has led to the 76ers working out point guard Markelle Fultz, considered to be one of the best players in the draft.
