Quezon Killer Whales Swimming Team bagged the overall title in the 117th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series – 11th Sen. Nikki Coseteng Swimming Championship held at the Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool in Quezon City.
The Quezon tankers collected 778 points to pocket the top honors and win the P5,000 champion’s prize while host Diliman Preparatory School copped the runner-up trophy with 444 points for the P3,000 consolation purse.
Navotas Swimming Team wound up third with 339 points to earn the P2,000 cash prize.
Rounding up the Top 10 are Camp Aguinaldo Streamline (302), Kalipayan Sailfish Swimming Team (292), De La Salle Araneta University (238), University of the Philippines Integrated School (234), Agyu Tamu Swimming Team (233), Philippine Navy Dependent (232), and the Butterfly of Novaliches (220) and Joey Andaya Seagulls (220).
Gwangju Universiade veteran Mhikcoloe Abina of San Sebastian College and Palarong Pambansa Most Outstanding Swimmer awardee Kyla Soguilon of Aklan Swimming Team took home the President’s Trophy awards after getting the highest FINA (International Swimming Federation) points.
Abina registered 553 points in winning the boys’ 15-over 50m freestyle gold medal (24.72) while Soguilon got 528 point in ruling the girls’ 100m Individual Medley (1:11.06).
“We are now employing this [FINA points] system to bring the competition to the next level. It’s a good challenge for them as they’ll be aiming to surpass their own personal best based on FINA points,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
“It’s an achievement on our part seeing good results like these. These are the fruits of our labor and we will continue this program, we won’t be getting tired,” she added.
