MANILA, Philippines – F2 Logistics kicked off its second round campaign in the 2017 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference on a sizzling note with a three-set victory over Cocolife on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Behind reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player Majoy Baron, the Cargo Movers came away with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-16 victory for its second win in four games.
F2 Logistics still needs to win their next two assignments against Cherrylume and Sta. Lucia to be in a good position in the crossover quarterfinals of the tournament.
“Ang goal namin is mag-number one sa group namin, para kahit papano, ‘yung last sa kabilang bracket ang makalaban namin,” said F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus, adding that his wards played well despite facing a squad bannered by former La Salle star Michele Gumabao.
“Sana, magtuloy-tuloy ‘yung ganitong galaw,” he added. “Although marami pang errors, pero maganda pa din ang pinakita namin.”
Baron had nine points, a block and an ace for 11 points for the Cargo Movers, who had a 35-23 advantage on attacks.
Meanwhile, the Foton Tornadoes got another superb performance from Jaja Santiago as they stunned Cignal, 25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 25-14, in Pool C also on Saturday.
The 6-foot-5 Santiago scattered 26 points on 18 kills, four kill blocks, and four aces for the Tornadoes, who bagged their fourth win. EJ Laure had 16 points.
“I come and see every match and analyze Cignal,” said Foton’s Serbain coach, Moro Branislav. “Cignal is a very good team, and today my players played well.”
“This is a big win for Foton.”
National team member Jovelyn Gonzaga had 14 points, while Honey Royse Tubino scored 11 points for Cignal.
The HD Spikers dropped to 3-1 in the tournament.
