President Duterte has lauded the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) for its contribution to national development and urged the group to continue to help the government build a better future for Filipinos.
The President expressed solidarity with the members of the influential religious organization during the celebration of its 103rd anniversary on July 27.
“For more than a century, the faith of the INC has served as a firm foundation of our country’s resilience in facing the challenges of an ever-changing world. Your devotion to the abiding truth of God’s love has nurtured our community and cultivated deep compassion among our people,” Duterte said in a message.
“I commend the leadership of the INC for empowering its flock to make a positive impact in the lives of our fellowmen. Your mission of doing God’s work here on earth is both inspiring and laudable,” he added.
The President also encouraged the INC to “continue to manifest your faith by serving those in the margins and contributing to nation-building.”
With the INC as partner of the government, Duterte said he was confident of bringing “positive and meaningful change” in society and building a “better and brighter future for every Filipino”
The religious group reportedly endorsed the presidential bid of Duterte in the last elections.
Apart from the Catholic Church, the INC wields huge influence on Philippine society and politics. Politicians often try to seek the endorsement of the INC during elections amid widespread perception that the group votes as a bloc.
