THE FATE of local chief executives (LCE) who were tagged to the illegal drugs trade hang in the balance until the new Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary decides what to do with the results of the investigation of Task Force Agila.
DILG undersecretary John Castriciones said TF Agila was dissolved by former DILG secretary Mike Sueno.
The task force was created to investigate the alleged involvement of some government officials in illegal drugs, particularly those named by President Rodrigo Duterte in his speeches.
Among those tagged by Duterte were Mayors Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo City, Alex Centena of Calinog, Mariano Malones of Maasin and Salagunting Betita of Carles.
Castriciones, who also headed TF Agila, said the memorandum placed the investigation under a 20-member Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) and Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force.
“Apparently, it has not yet initiated any investigation nor it continued where TF Agila left off,” he said.
Castriciones said if incoming DILG Secretary Eduardo Año decides to resume the functions and duties of TF Agila, “We will gladly comply because we are almost through (with the investigation).”
“As a matter of fact, we have prepared a lot of reports but because of the order of former secretary, it was stopped,” he added.
Meanwhile, Castriciones said DILG has yet to receive the resolution of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter which sought to clear Iloilo mayors tagged by the President for lack of cases filed against them.
“I have not received any information or correspondence regarding that issue,” he said.
