Cebu City – Police are looking deeper into the death of two Koreans earlier believed to be suicides.
The Koreans were found dead in their rooms in separate hotels in this city.
SPO1 Janice Tamayo of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said 34-year-old Jo Hyoyoung could have been robbed and killed in his hotel room, after it was discovered that the victim’s belongings were missing and there were signs of a struggle.
Jo’s hands were tied with telephone wire and his neck was tied with cable wire. Police also recovered condoms and empty beer cans in the room’s trash bin.
Police are checking the hotel’s security camera footage to help identify the suspect.
According to the hotel’s records, Jo checked in on October 25 and was supposed to check out last Tuesday.
Tamayo said the other Korean, Lim Jaemon was found dead in his bed in another hotel in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.
He said that Lim could have died of natural causes, since friends of Lim told the police that he had diabetes.
The Korean was playing casino with his friends all night and may have forgotten to drink medicines.
Joseph Shun, the chief officer of the Korean Consular Office in Cebu, said he will inform the family of the two Koreans of their death.
