Director General Ronald dela Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said he had directed all the regional directors to intensify monitoring on all commercial establishments and other soft targets.

“We have declared full alert status in all regions. So all of them are in full alert, on duty to conduct checkpoints in the cemetery,” said dela Rosa.

But the PNP chief said they have not monitored any threat both for the All Souls and All Saints Days and the ASEAN meeting in the middle of next month.

He, however, said they will not take everything lightly as he vowed to intensify intelligence-gathering and police visibility.

“We are encouraging the public to be vigilant always to address threat of terrorism, we need to cooperate. If observe suspcisious things or persons, report them immediately to the authorities,” said dela Rosa.

Part of the security measures, according to dela Rosa, is stepping up police visibility and monitoring commercial and residential areas which might be raided by burglars.

The official particularly pointed to the so-called termite gang-like modus, during which burglars would dig a tunnel towards the commercial establishments they want to target.

Dela Rosa said there is a need for intense monitoring and coordination between the police and security officers of commercial establishments.
