Police arrest ex-congressman on wife’s complaints » Manila Bulletin News

A former congressman of Rizal, who has four arrest warrants, was apprehended inside his condominum unit in Mandaluyong City yesterday morning.

Former Rizal 1st District representative Joel Roy Duavit is the subject of four arrest warrants for violating Republic Act (RA) 9262, the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children based on the charges filed by his estranged wife, Elvira Escueta Duavit.

A police team led by Senior Police Officer 4 Jose Drexell Molina of the Mandaluyong City Police collared Duavit inside his condominium at the North Tower of Shangrila in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City at about 9:30 a.m.

A copy of the court records on the cases, state that Elvira complained in January 2010 that the former congressman allegedly infected her with a disease (genital warts); and that in May 2010, she allegedly suffered verbal, emotional, and physical abuse.

All abuses reportedly transpired at their house in San Juan City and the cases were filed before the city’s Regional Trial Court Branch 162.

Duavit posted bail amounting to P134,000 and was released around 2 p.m. yesterday.
