Pocari Sweat strengthened its semifinal bid yesterday after downing Air Force, 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-14, 15-10, in the Premier Volleyball League at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Warriors displayed maturity and consistency, rallying from a 4-3 deficit in the fifth set and hanging tough in this single round robin quarterfinal among four teams.
BaliPure and Power Smashers earned the first two semis berths after topping the double-round eliminations.
Hard-hitting Myla Pablo returned with her usual sharp kills after struggling with back spasms by spearheading Pocari Sweat with 28 points built on 25 kills and three blocks to step up in the absence of import Edina Selimovic, who was out of the conference with a hamstring tear.
Pablo particularly sparkled in the deciding set when she teamed up with Jeanette Panaga for a 9-4 upperhand, before import Michelle Strizak and Maricar Nepomuceno sealed the win with corner spikes.
Strizak also stepped up for the Lady Warriors with 24 points highlighted by 22 attacks, while Gyzelle Sy contributed 40 excellent sets.
Jocemer Tapic and Thai reinforcement Patcharee Saengmuang scored 19 and 15 points, respectively, for Air Force but the Lady Jet Spikers failed to sustain their third-set momentum.
