4 p.m. – Pocari vs Power Smashers
6:30 p.m. – Creamline vs BaliPure
Defending champion Pocari Sweat and BaliPure seek to arrange a championship showdown when they clash with separate opponents today in the crucial semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League women’s tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Lady Warriors tangle with the Power Smashers at 4 p.m., while the Water Defenders collide with the Creamline Cool Smashers at 6:30 p.m. in Game 2 of their respective series.
Both Pocari and BaliPure drew first blood in Game 1 last Saturday and are hoping to sweep their affairs for championship round seats.
The Lady Warriors survived a grueling 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12 battle with the resilient Power Smashers, while the Water Defenders downed the Cool Smashers, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-21.
But expect revenge from the Power Smashers and Creamline to extend the series and keep their respective title campaigns alive.
“We can’t afford to give the Power Smashers the momentum. May tendency talaga kaming mag-relax, but we’ve been working on it,” said Pocari Coach Rommel Abella, who will continue to rely on American import Michelle Strizak, Myla Pablo, Desiree Dadang and libero Melissa Gohing.
The Power Smashers, meanwhile, has to lessen their errors after committing 39 the last time. Coach Nes Pamilar eyes Thai reinforcements Kannika Thipachot and Hyapa Amporn to tear the net with their all-around plays.
