NO less than Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco is urging his constituents to participate on tomorrow’s (Friday) plebiscite aimed to ratify the addition of four more villages out of three existing barangays.
Under Republic Act 10933, Barangay North Bay Boulevard South (NBBS) would be divided into three parts to be known as Barangays NBBS Proper, NBBS Kaunlaran and NBBS Dagat-Dagatan while by virtue of R.A. 10934 Barangay Tangos would be divided into Barangays Tangos North and Tangos South and under R.A. 10935, Barangay Tanza would split into Tanza 1 and Tanza 2.
The three laws were signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on August 23, 2017 prompting the Commission on Election (Comelec) to promulgate a resolution holding a plebiscite on January 5, 2018.
The Navotas chief executive has encouraged registered voters in the three barangays to cast their votes for the ratification of splitting the villages that will provide the local government to efficiently serve its constituents in terms of services.
Voting will start at 7 a.m. to be held at NBBS Elementary School, Kapitbahayan Elementary School and Dagat-Dagatan Elementary School in Barangay NBBS while in Barangays Tangos and Tanza, Tangos Elementary School Mother and Annex and Tanza Elementary School, respectively.
The counting of votes will start after the closing of the polling precincts at 3 p.m.
Earlier, the poll body announced a gun ban in the city last December 26 until January 10 and prohibits the transfer of local elective officials and employees to other post as well as issuance of appointments, promotions and grant of salary increases in government agencies until the entire process of plebiscite in complete.
SAFE BUT FUN-FILLED NEW YEAR’S REVELRY
The establishment of fireworks zones in Navotas proved to be successful as the local residents were able to welcome the New Year, 2018, without any report of serious firecracker-related injuries.
“We have reminded everyone to follow our laws on the use of firecrackers and fireworks display and by doing this, we all were able to celebrate New Year without any serious injuries and I praise everyone in the city,” Mayor Tiangco said.
At least 20 areas all over the city were designated as firecracker and fireworks zones through Executive Order 012 series of 2015.
Firecrackers zones, on the other hand, were determined and actively supervised by the 14 barangays. GOOD RIDDANCE/ARLIE CALALO
