MANILA, Philippines (3rd update) — Miss Philippines Rachel Peters was the first Asian to enter the Top 10 of Miss Universe 2017, but failed to advance to the competition’s final five.
The announcement of the top five candidates was made after the evening gown competition. Making the cut were Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez, Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett, Miss Thailand Maria Poonlertlarp, Miss Venezuela Keysi Sayago and Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

Peters walked onstage in a glittery silver gown reportedly designed by Michael Cinco.
Peters, a 26-year-old Filipino-British model from Canaman, Camarines Sur, joined candidates from Venezuela, USA, Canada, South Africa, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, Thailand and Jamaica in the Top 10 of the prestigious beauty competition.

Peters’ feat is the eighth consecutive top 10 finish of the Philippines at Miss Universe.
In her feature video, Peters recalled her love for surfing and the beach. She shared that she just recently opened a cafe in Siargao.
Born in Bahrain, Peters is the daughter of Annie Obregon, a Filipina from Bicol, and Nigel Peters, a British national.

Early in the Miss Universe 2017 preliminaries, Rachel has been among fans’ favorites to win Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown.
She also leads the pageant’s Facebook poll with more than 380,000 votes as of posting.
