BAGUIO CITY – An interplay of culture and traditions marked the celebration of Philippines-Japan friendship day,  commemorated at the Filipino-Japanese Peace Memorial Garden, along Gov. Pack road, Sunday morning.

Honorable Toshio Kawaguchi , Counsellor and Chief Consul, Japanese Embassy in Manila, and Carlos Teraoka, chairman of the Filipino-Japanese Foundation, led the prayers, candle lighting and offering of flowers at  the Japanese Shrine Garden, together with Filipino-Japanese descendants from the Baguio-Benguet area.

In the afternoon, the “Tomodachi” Day cultural show opened at the Baguio City National High School auditorium with the participation of the Kiddies Kingdom International School faculty members and Boy and Girl Scouts (BSP-GSP) .

The photo exhibit with the theme “Philippines-Japan Friendship Day in Baguio Through the Years,” was simultaneously viewed at the BCNHS auditorium,

Veteran journalist Nars Padilla, event coordinator, said   Chief Consul Kawaguchi was also a guest of honor and speaker after the presentation and coronation of muses: Miss Friendship, Miss Peace and Miss Solidarity from the Fil-Jap Foundation, Baguio City National High School and BSP Baguio Council,respectively.

The “Tomadachi Day” included Cordillera dances, Japanese songs, Harana,cosplay,folk dances, and chorus and opera performance by Japanese Opera Singer Mieko Tsurusawa.
