Aparri, Cagayan — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), backed up by police and soldiers, raided around noon the other day a mining firm in Barangay Tallungan, Aparri, Cagayan and discovered chemicals used in manufacturing illegal drugs and explosives inside its warehouse.
PDEA Region 2 Director Laurel Gabales said the raiding team was armed with a search warrant issued by a local court in Aparri when it swooped down the Hua-Xia Mining Compound at 12:30 p.m. last Thursday.
Gabales said the search warrant was intended against mining firm administrators Lito Lim and Michael Tan, but neither was around when the raid was conducted.
He said operatives found and confiscated several apparatus and glass containers containing suspected Controlled Precursors and Essential Chemicals (CPECs) which are used in manufacturing illegal drugs.
Some of the chemicals seized were suspected essential chemicals used in manufacturing explosives, said Lieutenant Colonel Rembert R. Baylosis, commander of the 17th Infantry Battalion whose men joined the anti-drugs operation.
Gabales said that while the seized chemicals were taken to the PDEA Forensic Laboratory Section for verification, serious drugs charges are being prepared against Lim and Tan.
