PBA: Terrence Romeo’s heroics push GlobalPort past Rain Or Shine

Terrence Romeo scored 10 of GlobalPort’s last 16 points, and the Batang Pier survived a see-saw 4th quarter to beat Rain Or Shine 107-101 in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna on Friday.

Romeo finished with a game-high 26 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists in easily his best game of the tournament. He shot 10 of 20 from the field and 4 of 10 from downtown.

With the win, GlobalPort’s 4th in 10 games tying idle Phoenix for 7th place, its quarterfinals hopes remain very much alive.

Rain Or Shine was up 94-86 with a little more than 5 minutes left in the game, but GlobalPort whittled the deficit down to 95-94 thanks to back-to-back triples by Justin Harper and Romeo.

A pair of free throws by Harper and another 3-pointer by Romeo made it 101-97 with 80 seconds remaining.

Rain Or Shine didn’t go away easily though.

Jeff Chan’s triple closed the gap to 103-101, but a tough layup by Sean Anthony extended the lead to 105-101 with 26 seconds in the clock and Chan missed his next 3-pointer, sealing the deal for GlobalPort.

Harper registered 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Sean Anthony 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

Six GlobalPort players knocked down at least 2 3-pointers. Overall, the Batang Pier waxed hot from long distance, making 17 of 37 attempts for 45%.

Duke Crews tallied 23 points and 17 rebounds to lead Rain Or Shine, which fell to 5-5.
