MANILA — Expect San Miguel Beer to go for the jugular on Sunday when it meets TNT in Game 6 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup best-of-7 finals at Araneta Coliseum.
This after the Beermen took Game 5, 111-102, for a 3-2 series lead.
“This is the momentum that you want heading into a wrap-up game,” San Miguel coach Leo Austria told the PBA website. “The players are really aware of the situation we’re facing right now. Ang lahat sinasabi nila, if possible, matapos na (sa Sunday).”
San Miguel is seeking back-to-back championships, but the KaTropa are determined to extend the series.
“The goal is to get to a Game 7, so ‘yun naman ‘yun,” TNT coach Nash Racela said following the Game 5 loss. “I mean your emotions cannot be dictated by this game.”
“You just have to focus on the next one, and there will be a Game 7.”
San Miguel used a small lineup against TNT’s big men and this lead to the Beermen’s huge fight back in the second half of Game 5. The KaTropa tried to adjust but it came too late.
Austria expects Game 6 to be another battle of adjustments. If he plays his cards right, then he might get his fifth crown with San Miguel.
“We’re very aware of what will happen. Kaya nga ina-nacticipate na namin na they could go small or big. Pero lahat na iyan makikita lang natin during the game,” said Austria.
“Basta we have our own plans. Siguro ang keys dito kung gaano ka-mentally prepared ang mga players at kung paano kami mag-adjust during the game itself.”
