MANILA, Philippines – Wangs Basketball rose to the occasion and clipped Centro Escolar University (CEU) from behind, 88-87, for its first win in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
Trailing by 10, 72-82, with just 2:41 to play, the Couriers proceeded to outscore CEU, 16-5, capped by a pair of free throws from Jason Riley for the one-point lead with 22.9 seconds to go.
Rod Ebondo and Art Aquino had their chances to put the Scorpions ahead anew, but the two players both misfired from close range as time expired.
“‘Yung mga bata, uhaw sa panalo,” said coach Pablo Lucas. “Sumunod sila sa ame plan, at ‘yun ang nagpanalo sa amin.”
