MANILA, Philippines – Wangs Basketball stood firm to pull off a huge 93-84 victory over Racal Motors in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Chris Bitoon led the fight for the Couriers, scoring 12 of his 22 points in the second half to go along with five steals, four rebounds, and three assists.

Robbie Herndon was impressive anew, tallying a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds.

However, it was Michole Sorela who delivered the big shots for Wangs in the final quarter, as he scored 10 points in the fourth period to finish with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Wangs Basketball improved to 3-2, its best start since joining the D-League.

“Big fish ‘yung tinalo namin,” said Wangs coach Pablo Lucas. “Sa pagsisikap at team effort, nakuha namin ‘yung panalo.”

The Couriers used a fourth-quarter rally to turn a slim 70-68 lead into a more commanding 81-72 edge with 3:49 left to play after a Sorela bucket.

“Nakukuha na namin ‘yung chemistry, unlike before na may wall. Na-motivate namin ‘yung players na kailangan talaga naming maging isa kung gusto naming manalo,” said Lucas.

Marlon Gomez led the way for Racal Motors with his 15 points and six rebounds, but their squad fell to its second straight defeat.

Roider Cabrera shot 3-of-8 from beyond the arc to collect 14 markers, while Gwynne Capacio had 12 points and four boards in the loss.
