Promising Filipino netter John Bryan Decasa Otico took the top honors in the 2017 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Champion-ships boys’ singles held at the National Tennis Development Center in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

The top-seeded Otico needed just less than an hour to beat the seventh-ranked Indian bet Sacchitt Sharrma via a 6-2, 6-1 demolition in the championship round.

It was a fitting gift for Otico who celebrated his 18th birthday on Sunday.

Otico reached the finals without dropping a single set in the Grade Four tournament.

He dominated Natthayut Nithithananont of Thailand in the second round (6-1, 7-5), Keisuke Saitoh of Japan in the third round (6-2, 6-2), Huang Liangxiang of China in the quarterfinals (6-4, 6-4) and 12th pick Akanit Pumjit of Thailand in the semifinals (6-4, 6-4).

Otico got a first-round bye.

Second seed Arthur Craig Pantino, Filipino-Spanish Diego Garcia Dalisay and Stephan Lhuillier also saw action in the weeklong netfest but suffered setbacks in their respective campaigns in the early round.

Pantino made it to the quarterfinals but lost to Sharrma (3-6, 3-6) while Dalisay was booted out by third seed Rishabh Sharda of India (3-6, 4-6).

Dalisay and Lhuillier lost to Thai pair Pasawee Reansuwong and Kasidit Samrej in the first round of the doubles event.

So far, Otico has already won three titles this season.

Otico ruled the singles event of the Hong Kong ITF Junior Tennis Tournament in Hong Kong in January then copped the doubles title with Japanese partner Seito Watanabe in China ITF Junior Championships in Beijing in May.

Otico, Pantino, Dalisay and Lhuillier will be seeing action next in Week 2 of the 2017 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Championships scheduled at the same venue.
