The Philippines recorded a mere 4 percent annual growth in online hiring between September 2016 and 2017, with retail industry exhibiting highest growth in online hiring in September.
This is according to the latest Monster Employment Index (MEI), a monthly gauge of online job posting activity in the Philippines, recording the industries and occupations that show the highest and lowest growth in recruitment activity.
For the entire month of September, Philippines’ retail industry exhibited the highest growth in online hiring, recording a 21 percent year-on-year increase.
“Strong macroeconomic fundamentals and rising disposable income have attracted many foreign retail brands to set up shop in the Philippines. This has propelled economic growth as well as created more jobs across this sector,” said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com – APAC and Middle.
Drilling down to the occupational groups, Software, Hardware, Telecom talent was most in demand with 12 percent year-on-year growth in online hiring in September. This was also the steepest annual growth witnessed since April 2017.
Demand for professionals in the Health Care sector, on the other hand, continued to plunge to occupy the lowest position amongst all occupational groups, at a 6 percent year-on-year decline.
