National University and Adamson University emerged champions in the initial staging of the PVF-Tanduay Athletics Under-18 Beach Volleyball Invitational over the weekend at the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City.
NU’s Reymart Reyes and Pol Salvador defeated the tandem of Humprey Bautista at Elpidio Mabini, Jr. of the San Antonino National High School of Isabela in straight set for the boys championship, while Adamson’s Gracelchen Ave at Hannah Infante won over RTU’s Sayrel Bermeo and Reyann Cañete for the girls’ title.
The one-day event was filled with excitement, fun and camaraderie as complimentary food and drinks flowed the whole day in the entry-free tournament organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) and supported by Tanduay Athletics of Bong Tan and PVF chairman Mikey Arroyo.
A total of 30 teams, including delegates from Baguio City (U.Cordillera HS), Pangasinan (U of Luzon), Isabela, Zambales, Cavite and Marinduque have participated in the this grassroots sports program.
“PVF embarks on a new direction as it concentrates on grassroots development providing healthy competition among the very young athletes,” said Cantada.
PVF has deviated from giving monetary rewards to winners. Instead, PVF has awarded beautiful trophies and gift certificates from Charlie’s Burgers and a giant department store. PVF would like to instill the values among the young athletes.
