Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) forces have arrested a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) after an hour of gun fight in Boliney, Abra recently.
Lt. Col Isagani G. Nato, NOLCOM public information officer said a certain alias Joana was captured by the army troopers belonging to the 24th Infantry Brigade (24IB) and 7th Infantry Division (7ID), after she sustained multiple gunshot wounds following the gun battle. She was provided immediate medical care.
According to Nato, the NOLCOM forces initially encountered 20 NPA members at Sitio Tinalban, Barangay Kilong-Olao in Boliney around 3:30 PM of July 1, but the latter group dispersed after the exchange of gun fire.
The arrested NPA amazon admitted that she was a member of the NPA under the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) North operating in Abra and remote areas of Kalinga and Mountain Province, Nato said.
Recovered from the NPA combatants were several firearms and subversive items such as three (3) M16 rifles, two (2) M14 rifles, one (1) M203 Grenade Launcher, fifteen (15) backpacks with voluminous documents, two (2) Hand-held radios, eight (8) cellular phones, WIFI modem, medical paraphernalia, a binocular and other personal belongings, according to the NOLCOM report.
Nato said the troops from 24IB are still conducting pursuit and clearing operations in the area while PNP Abra elements are conducting checkpoints along possible withdrawal routes.
