Head coach Boyet Fernandez, main man Robert Bolick, and rising star Clint Doliguez were all back for San Beda College on Friday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

And San Beda at full strength is as dangerous as ever.

The Red Lions made sure age-old rival San Sebastian College-Recoletos remembered that, coming away with a convincing 76-65 victory that hiked its winning streak to 10 in a row in the NCAA 93 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

“It’s our defense that stepped up this game,” Fernandez said after his boys only allowed their opponents to make good on 25 of their 66 attempts from the field. It was a rousing welcome back for the head coach after he had to serve a disciplinary action the league imposed.

Fernandez, along with Bolick and Doliguez, were slapped with one-game suspensions following their involvement in an incident during their matchup with College of St. Benilde a week ago.

Bolick wasted no time in being back, leading the charge for the defending champions in this one, scoring 11 points. Doliguez also chipped in five points, three rebounds, and two assists.

However, it was Javee Mocon who was a force all game long and Jeramer Cabanag who was a pleasant surprise in the final frame.

Cabanag’s back-to-back hits fronted the pivotal 7-0 push that increased San Beda’s five-point lead into a 67-55 advantage with five minutes remaining.

The Golden Stags again threatened at 64-70 with 2:22 left only to see Mocon score all but one point in a 6-0 burst that sealed the deal in the Red Lions’ rise to 11-1.

The fourth-year forward wound up with another double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Davon Potts also turned in a season-best 16 markers.

With the win, San Beda stayed in solo second and still right behind league-leading and undefeated Lyceum of the Philippines University.

On the other hand, Baste still could not get a winning streak going and dropped back onto a 5-6 record – knotted for fourth with Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Michael Calisaan topped the scoring column for them with 23 points.
