San Isidro, N. Samar – The mayor of this town is urging the Department of Public Works and Highways Northern Samar First Engineering District (DPWH-NS Ist DEO) to finish the construction of the school building in Alegria National High School (ANHS) to address the lack of classrooms this forthcoming school year.
San Isidro Mayor Ferdinand C. Avila told reporters in an interview that the construction of the two-story school building has been delayed for more than a year now and what are seen in the area are only scaffoldings, the floorings, half and unfinished posts with rusty steel bars and unfinished walls, and grasses are already growing around the construction site.
Avila said the parents and teachers at ANHS have been complaining already regarding the status and the delayed construction of the school building.
Avila informed reporters that the construction of the two-storey eight classroom school building at the Alegria National High School with a contract ID of 151HO115 has a contract cost of P10,624,127.29 with fund source drawn from CY 2015 Basic Educational Funds Batch 1 of the Department of Education.
He added that the project was started on April 8, 2016 and to be finished within 150 calendar days with the DPWH-NS Ist DEO as the implementing office.
Avila emphasized that the preliminary construction of the building as it is seen now should be reviewed and examined.
He voiced his concern on the layout and the condition of the posts and floorings of the abandoned project claiming that “the construction appears to be substandard” as evaluated by the municipal engineer of the town.
